FAQ
Fees & Insurance
Do you accept insurance?
We are an out-of-network practice, which means we don't bill insurance companies directly. After each visit we provide a superbill — a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement, depending on your plan's out-of-network benefits. See our Fees page for a full walkthrough.
What is a superbill, and how do I use it?
A superbill is an itemized statement — visit date, diagnosis codes, and procedure codes — formatted for insurance reimbursement. You pay for your visit directly, then submit the superbill to your insurer (usually through their member portal). Whether you are reimbursed, and how much, depends on your plan, so we recommend verifying your out-of-network benefits first. A superbill lists diagnosis and procedure codes, so submitting it shares that information with your insurer.
How much are your fees?
An initial comprehensive psychiatric evaluation (up to 60 minutes) is $625, or $700 for a child and adolescent evaluation (up to 90 minutes). Follow-up medication management visits (up to 30 minutes) are $300, individual therapy sessions (up to 45 minutes) are $300, and forms or paperwork are $100. Our 15-minute consultation is free. See our Fees page for the complete schedule.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept major credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards. Payment is due in full at the time of service unless a payment plan has been agreed to in writing in advance.
Getting Started
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. We offer a free 15-minute consultation at no charge. Contact our care coordination team to arrange one before scheduling a full evaluation.
How long is the first appointment?
The initial evaluation is up to 60 minutes (up to 90 minutes for a child and adolescent evaluation). Follow-up medication visits are up to 30 minutes.
What if my psychiatrist is away or unavailable?
We are a group practice, and our psychiatrists cover for one another. If your psychiatrist is unavailable, another psychiatrist in the practice can help.
Can I choose my psychiatrist?
Yes. You can request a specific psychiatrist when you submit an appointment request, or tell us you have no preference and we will help match you based on your needs and age.
Can I have a telehealth visit, and in which states?
Yes. You must be physically located in a state where your psychiatrist is licensed at the time of the visit. All of our psychiatrists see patients located in New Jersey; Dr. Rahman and Dr. Ahmad also see patients located in New York, and Dr. Ahmad also sees patients located in California. If you are outside those states, we cannot see you by video.
What should I prepare for my first visit?
It helps to bring a list of current medications and doses, past diagnoses and treatments, and any recent records or lab results. Write down the main concerns you want to cover and any questions you have.
What if I need urgent help?
We are not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For emotional crisis support in the U.S., call or text 988 at any time.
How do I schedule a first appointment?
Use the "Request an Appointment" button anywhere on the site, or contact us directly, and our care coordination team will help match you with the right psychiatrist and find a time that works.
What happens at the first visit?
Your first appointment is a comprehensive evaluation of up to 60 minutes (up to 90 minutes for children and adolescents), covering your history, current concerns, prior treatment, and goals. It runs longer than a typical follow-up so nothing feels rushed, and it forms the foundation for your treatment plan.
Do you offer telehealth visits?
Yes. Video visits are available for evaluations, medication management, and follow-up care, to patients located in New Jersey at the time of the appointment, and in New York (Dr. Rahman and Dr. Ahmad) or California (Dr. Ahmad). See our Telepsychiatry page for details.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancelling or rescheduling with 24 or more hours' notice is not charged. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours' notice) and no-shows are charged the full session fee. Three or more late cancellations or no-shows in a rolling 12-month period may result in discharge from the practice, with appropriate referrals provided.
Our Care
Do you see children and teenagers?
Yes — our child & adolescent psychiatry service is led by a double board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, and every evaluation looks at school functioning and family dynamics alongside clinical symptoms.
Do you treat substance use disorders?
Yes. Our addiction psychiatry service addresses substance use disorders and the psychiatric conditions that frequently co-occur with them, such as depression, anxiety, and mood disorders.
Can I get a second opinion on an existing diagnosis or medication plan?
Yes — this is a common reason patients come to us. We're happy to review your history and offer an independent perspective on your current treatment plan.
Do you provide therapy as well as medication management?
Yes. All of our psychiatrists provide individual psychotherapy (up to 45 minutes) in addition to medication management, and can offer either one on its own or both together. If you already see an outside therapist, we coordinate with them with your permission.
What languages are spoken at the practice?
Across our psychiatrists we speak English, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, and Arabic: Dr. Rahman speaks English, Spanish, Hindi and Urdu; Dr. Ahmad speaks English, Hindi and Urdu; and Dr. Hassan speaks English and Arabic.
