Overview
Harbor Road Psychiatry ("Harbor Road," "we," "us," or "our") respects the privacy of everyone who visits this website. This Privacy Policy explains what information this website collects, how we use and protect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights available to you.
This Policy applies to harborroadpsych.com and any subdomains of it (the "Site"). It does not apply to information collected in person at our office, over the phone, through our electronic health record system, or through our secure patient portal — that information is protected health information governed by our HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices, described in the section below.
Information We Collect
We collect a limited amount of information through this Site, in three ways:
- Information you provide directly. When you submit our contact form, you provide your name, email address, phone number, and the content of your message. We use this solely to respond to your inquiry.
- Information collected automatically. Like nearly all websites, our hosting infrastructure automatically logs standard technical data for every visitor — such as IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and the date and time of access. This information is used for security, troubleshooting, and understanding general site usage, and is not used to identify you personally.
- Information from third-party embedded content. Certain pages include content hosted by third parties, such as an embedded Google Map on our Contact page and web fonts served by Google Fonts. Loading these elements may cause your browser to send limited technical information (such as your IP address) directly to that third party, under that third party's own privacy policy. See "Third-Party Services" below for details.
How We Use Information
We use the information described above only for the following purposes:
- To respond to appointment requests and other inquiries submitted through our contact form
- To operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Site
- To understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the Site, so we can make it more useful
- To detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent, unauthorized, or malicious activity against the Site
- To comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request
We do not use information submitted through this Site for advertising or marketing profiling, and we do not sell, rent, or trade it to third parties.
How We Share Information
We do not sell or rent personal information collected through this Site. We disclose it only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers. We may share information with vendors who perform services on our behalf — such as our website host, email provider, or IT support — under obligations to protect it and use it only to provide those services.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required to do so by law, subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of any person, investigate fraud, or comply with a governmental request.

Our Contact Form Is Not for Protected Health Information
Our website contact form is intended for general, non-urgent inquiries — such as requesting an appointment, asking about fees, or a general question about our practice. It is not a secure, HIPAA-compliant communication channel. Please do not use it to share details about your symptoms, diagnosis, medications, treatment history, or any other protected health information.
If you are an existing patient with a question about your care, please use our secure patient portal or call our office directly. If you are experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. If you or someone you know is in crisis, you can call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) at any time, free and confidential.
Your Medical Records and HIPAA
This Privacy Policy governs only this website. It is separate and distinct from the privacy of your protected health information (PHI) as a patient of Harbor Road Psychiatry.
Your clinical records — including your evaluation, diagnosis, treatment plan, session notes, and any communication with your clinician through our electronic health record or patient portal — are governed by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and by our HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices. That notice explains in detail how your PHI may be used and disclosed, and describes your rights regarding your own medical record, including the right to request access to, and copies of, your records, and the right to request corrections. A copy of our current Notice of Privacy Practices is provided to every patient at the start of care and is available from our office at any time upon request.
Cookies & Similar Technologies
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. This Site uses, at most, a minimal set of functional cookies necessary for basic operation (for example, remembering that you dismissed a notice). We do not currently use cookies for behavioral advertising or cross-site tracking, and we do not use third-party advertising networks on this Site.
Embedded third-party content, such as the Google Map on our Contact page, may set its own cookies according to that provider's policy, independent of this Site. You can control or delete cookies through your browser's settings; disabling cookies may affect how some pages of this Site display but will not prevent you from viewing our core content.
Third-Party Services We Use

Children's Privacy
This Site is intended for use by adults — whether they are seeking care for themselves, on behalf of a minor in their care, or on behalf of a family member. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children through this Site. Any inquiry regarding psychiatric care for a minor should be submitted by that minor's parent or legal guardian.
Data Retention
We retain information submitted through our contact form only as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your inquiry and maintain a record of that communication, after which it is deleted or anonymized. Standard technical server logs are typically retained for a limited period for security purposes and then automatically purged or rotated by our hosting provider. This is separate from the retention of clinical records, which is governed by applicable medical recordkeeping law and our HIPAA policies, not by this Privacy Policy.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information submitted through this Site, including transmitting the Site over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of any information you submit.
Your Rights & Choices
You always have the choice to contact us by phone or email instead of using our website contact form. Regarding information you have already submitted through this Site, you may contact us at any time to:
- Ask what information we hold about you
- Request a copy of that information
- Request that we correct inaccurate information
- Request that we delete information submitted through our contact form
Depending on your state of residence, you may have additional rights under applicable state privacy law — for example, New Jersey's Data Privacy Act provides certain residents with rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of certain processing of their personal information.
